Powell Companies was founded in 1969 as a crane and steel erection company. In 1973, other divisions were created, including mineral processing and construction. These divisions are strategically located to serve our customers with efficiency and to complete our projects safely and on schedule with on-the-job project management.

In 1983, Decanter Machine, Inc. was formed. Decanter has emerged as a leading national and international manufacturer of horizontal centrifuges (liquid/solid separation machines). ISO 9002-certified, Decanter operates a manufacturing facility that provides new, rebuilt, and repaired equipment as well as field service around the world.

Powell Companies established Volunteer Millwright, located in Knoxville, Tennessee, in 2001.

Headquartered in Johnson City, Tennessee, Powell Companies also has locations in Knoxville and Nashville, Tennessee. Additionally, the company has offices in Beckley, West Virginia; Roebuck and Charleston, South Carolina; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Powell's highly-skilled staff of professional millwrights, ironworkers, welders, pipefitters and carpenters, supported by a modern fleet of cranes with capacities up to 300 tons, brings to its customers the latest technology and superior workmanship.

So committed are we to safety that we have two fulltime safety professionals available at all times to ensure that our high standards are met.
